House committee advances Alabama lottery plan

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVY) - The push for an Alabama lottery inched closer to success Wednesday afternoon.

A House of Representatives committee approved the bill sending it to the full house.

Unlike the Senate version, this proposal earmarks 25% of revenue to education.

The other 75 percent would go to the state's general operating fund.

It could be on the House floor next week.

If lawmakers there approve it the bill would return to the Senate for another vote on the education funding.

Ultimately, voters must approve a lottery.
