BONIFAY, Fla. (WTVY) -- The Holmes County Sheriff Office unveiled a new phone app this weekend to keep county residents safe and informed.

The Holmes County Sheriff's Office app is now available for download and offers access to not only arrest and events, but also important "how to" information such as procedures for applying for a 911 address, jail visitation, and more. (Source: Holmes County Sheriff's Office)

Holmes County Sheriff John Tate told me this app is imperative in a time where technology rules and it wasn't a process that happened over night.

"It's something we've been working on for ever since I've gotten elected. It's been going on for a couple years,"

The app has a wealth of information including arrests and bookings, jail information and news from the sheriff's office.

"We get daily calls on that and people can just go to that app and get that information without having to make a phone call."

It will also inform resident's to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.

"You can send a push notification out to your phone, so if you've got our app downloaded to your phone you can send an alert to your phone to let you know somethings going on and you can read about it and if you see that person or have some information about what's going on you can call the sheriff's office."

One way Sheriff Tate is hoping Holmes County residents utilize the app is by submitting a tip.

All you have to do is give a description of the crime and where it happened. You can even remain anonymous.

"We've only got so many deputies and the more eyes and the more people you can get out there watching and seeing what's going on in your community the better off you are."

Sheriff Tate praised Holmes County residents for their help with previous crimes and says this app will just speed up the process.

"The more people know what's going on the more you are apt to finding somebody, so it provides you all kinds of tools for others eyes other than law enforcement itself."

The app is available for apple and android devices.

All you have to do is search Holmes County Sheriff Office in the store.
