DOTHAN, AL. (WTVY) - The community is helping to end homelessness across the Wiregrass and your help is needed.
The Southeast Alabama Coalition for the homeless is in need of volunteers on January 26th at the Harbor in Dothan.
Each year the Department of Housing and Urban Development takes a count of the homeless so they can better serve them.
This count is crucial in identifying the progress made in the Wiregrass toward reducing homelessness.
One leader at The Harbor says homelessness is a growing epidemic in the area.
"We want to do everything we can to establish a relationship and then be able to help people walk through that process. Just alone in the past few months, we had six people come out of homelessness right into permanent homes and jobs. So that's a blessing," said Harbor Executive Director Kody Kirchhoff.
If you'd like to help, stop by the Harbor at 10 am on Saturday, January 26th.
