DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Juniors and seniors from Houston Academy joined upperclassmen at Providence Christian to meet a decorated war hero.

Retired Major General Patrick Brady was the keynote speaker at the schools' Veterans Day event.

General Brady imparted wisdom to students saying, "The key to life is courage, and the key to courage is faith."

He explained why speaking to today's youth about patriotism is extremely important.

“I think the future of America depends on whether or not we develop patriots," said Gen. Brady.

"If we don’t grow patriots in schools like this, there’s no hope for America. You’ve got to develop young people who love their country and will support and defend their country, and we have too many young people in America today who don’t know the history of this country,” Gen. Brady said.

The 83-year-old is one of 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients.
