MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Governor’s Office) — Gov. Kay Ivey’s beloved dog, Bear, died Friday after a struggle with some ongoing health issues, the Office of the Governor announced Friday afternoon.
Bear, a 14-year old Chow mix, was adopted by Governor Ivey in 2005 from a local vet after he was hit by a car.
He was beloved by the entire Governor’s Staff and especially by those who worked in the Governor’s Mansion.
Area school children often got to see Bear during tours of the Governor’s Mansion.
“He brought a bright spirit to the mansion,” the Governor’s Office said in a statement.
Bear also appeared in a campaign commercial with Ivey before the Nov. 6 election.
