Girl fends off hawk preparing to fly off with 2-pound Yorkie

Las Vegas (WTHR / NBC News Channel) -- A scary moment is caught on camera when a hawk attacks a 2-pound puppy.

It happened in a backyard in Las Vegas. The 15-year-old owner heard the cries from the little Yorkie and rushed outside to save her dog.

"We were inside making tacos, and we hear crying. We just hear them barking and crying, so we are like 'Oh they're just play fighting' and a second later, I just look outside. We see a huge bird fly up, and I yell at the bird, 'get off my dog! Get off my dog!" Cecelia Celis recalls.

She tried yelling at the bird and even hit it with a pillow multiple times.

Eventually, the bird let go of the puppy and flew away empty-handed.

"Lulu" suffered a puncture wound to her neck but vets say she's going to be okay.

Now her owners are searching for the bird who they believe is somebody's pet.

"We just hope that the bird gets captured because everyone is saying that they've seen that bird around," said Celis.

When you look closely at the video, torn straps are visible on the hawk's legs. That leads the family to believe it got loose from its owners.
