Girard Primary in Dothan among Alabama failing schools

Montgomery (WTVY) Girard Primary School in Dothan has received a failing score from the Alabama Department of Education.

There are 75 schools on the list, including one charter school in Mobile. That number is down by one from the previous year.

Students at failing schools are allowed to transfer to non-failing public or private schools with their families being eligible for a tax credit.

Dothan recently overhauled its school system under the guidance of Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Edwards.

The system has several primary schools, one junior high for students in 7th through 9th grades, and a single high school.

Others on the failing list include Barbour County High School and Barbour County Intermediate School.
