ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) — Sanitation rates topic of Sept. 17 town hall meeting
The cost of residential and commercial garbage pick-up and other sanitation rates will be the topic of discussion at a Town Hall meeting planned for Monday, Sept. 17.
The meeting will be from 6 p.m. at the Enterprise Civic Center. Mayor William E. Cooper, Enterprise City Council members and Department of Public Works leaders will be on hand to answer questions and discuss a proposed increase in rates.
An ordinance was introduced at last week’s city council meeting that would raise the rates in order to help defray the costs of the city’s many sanitation collection services and disposal costs at the county landfill. City leaders have said the city is losing about $1.2 million a year and that customers have not experienced an increase in sanitation and landfill rates in 28 years.
The ordinance introduced but not yet voted upon by the city council would raise the residential rates, effective Oct. 1, from $10.50 to $15.50 per month to equal the current business rate of $15.50. Over the next three years, the rates for both residential and business sanitation services would be raised by $2, topping out at $21.50 in 2021.
Everyone is invited to attend the meeting to share thoughts and suggestions.
