A funeral was held for Abbeville civil rights figure Recy Taylor.

Family, friends and those wanting to pay respects gathered at Mary Magdalene Baptist Church Friday morning to say their final goodbyes.

Mrs. Taylor peacefully passed away just days before her 98th birthday at the Henry County Rehabilitation Center in Abbeville.

"Well I tell you I am very happy to see a lot of people come to see her to put her away. And the pastor said some kind words and everything he said was true.. she was a loving woman. I never seen her mad, she was always willing to help people and she was kind. There was a lot of those young people you see up front she raised from a baby. We gone miss her but she was with us for 98 years and I can't complain about that." -- Robert Corbitt, Younger Brother

“Very deserving for a deserving lady.” -- Alice Washington, Friend

Mrs. Taylor was buried at New Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church -- next to her only daughter who passed away in a car accident years ago.
