DOTHAN, AL. (WTVY) - Flying a plane has fascinated many for well over a century now and the Young Eagles Program is helping younger generations get up in the air.
Four Wiregrass young eagles have been awarded scholarships to the Auburn Aviation Camp taking place this summer.
The students received their scholarships this morning at Aero-One Aviation at the Dothan Regional Airport.
The purpose of the Young Eagles Program is to spark aviation interest in Wiregrass-area kids and to provide a way for them to experience the wonders of flight.
David Stock, Young Eagles Coordinator for the Dothan Experimental Aircraft Association, says "Many of us didn't grow up with aviation...we knew nothing about it. Having a mentor or volunteer from our chapter to kind of help nurture them, mentor them, and understand about aviation...it's really inspiring for us as much as it is motivational for them."
The Auburn Aviation Camp will be held in June.
