FORT RUCKER, Ala. (WTVY) - The Army’s 244th birthday was on Friday.

Monday, Fort Rucker welcomed its 28th commanding general.

Major General David Francis took command from Major General William K. Gayler.

General Gayler is being transferred to Germany.

General Francis has most recently served as Director of Army Aviation in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, in Washington, D.C.

“There’s always a lot of things going on in the aviation branch,” said Major General David Francis.

“The training of our aviation force every day, development of doctrine, and of course aviation is the third of the modernization priorities for the Army. So we’re going to be very busy looking at the modernization of that. So it’s a balance of those things.”

This is the sixth time Francis has been assigned to Fort Rucker.
