The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says a former Samson police officer, wanted for questioning in the shooting death of his wife, is dead.
The Alabama State Bureau of investigation says 45-year-old James Chadwick Green was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
That happened after the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office got a tip that Green's 2017 red Toyota pick-up was spotted on Interstate 85 on the East side of Montgomery.
Deputies followed green for a short distance and conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 65 authorities say just before 5:00 p.m.
Authorities say Green shot himself and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died just before 6:30 p.m.
Alabama law enforcement officers began searching for Green yesterday, after 33-year-old Sarah Cooper was found with a gunshot wound in Samson.
She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Samson Police Chief Jimmy Hill says Sarah Cooper's three boys were in the home when she was shot.
They were picked up at the police station later and are with their father.
This is an ongoing investigation.
