“He was a great defense coach who I was honored to have been associated with both on the football field and in my personal life,” Parrish said. The two men coached together until Northview High School was constructed in 1978 and Parrish moved on to there while Creel remained at Dothan High.

Creel was also an assistant on the Troy University (then Troy State) football team that won the NAIA college football championship in 1968. After leaving Dothan, he worked in Florida until his retirement a few years back.

“He was a really great guy knew his way around the football field. He was a great friend and a great person. I’ll miss him,” Parrish said.

Funeral services will be announced.
