Ozark (WTVY)-- A former Dale City Council member is headed to prison for having sexual relations with a 15-year old girl.

Marvin Wise, 63, hoped to receive probation after pleading guilty to one count of sodomy. However, Dale County Circuit Judge Kimberly Clark denied that request on Tuesday.

Wise will serve a seven year sentence.

“I believe elected officials should be held to a higher standard and, when they violate the public trust, they should be held accountable,” Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams told WTVY.

Wise could have continued to serve on the Daleville council following his 2017 arrest. He would not have been removed until his guilty plea several weeks ago.

However, he attended no meetings after charges were filed and, ultimately, was removed from the council.

In exchange for his guilty plea to one count of Sodomy, prosecutors agreed to drop other sex charges against Wise involving the same girl.

“I appreciate Judge Clark (denying the probation). It is egregious what he did,” Adams said.
