The Florida Lottery has hit a major milestone in its mission to benefit education.

With the lottery's most recent transfer to the state's Education Enhancement Trust Fund, the Florida Lottery's to-date contributions have surpassed $36 billion.

Twenty-six percent of every dollar spent on Florida Lottery goes to education, and once allocated, the Florida Legislature decides how the money is spent.

To this point, over $11 billion has gone to Florida's public schools, while almost eight and a half billion dollars has gone to state universities and colleges, and six billion dollars to Bright Futures.

"To have reached the goal at this point for $36 billion, we've done one billion annually over the last 17 years, at least one billion, and so to have done that in a seven month period really makes us feel like our efforts are worth it," said Conrad Snyder, the Sales Operation Manager of Florida Lottery's Gainesville District Office.

Since beginning its contribution to Bright Futures, the Florida Lottery has helped send more than 840 thousand students to college.
