DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Contestants lined up at the volunteer center for the recipe contest.
Dozens of entrys, including a busload of 36 students from local high schools, dropped off candy, cookies, cakes and more to be judged.
There are six different categories and prizes include ribbons, gift baskets, and for grand prize winners—electric mixers.
“We’re showcasing the peanut, that’s what it’s all about. It’s a requirement that, you know, you use some kind of peanut or peanut product," said contest coordinator Beth Taylor, "we’re showcasing what our farmers actually grow here in the Wiregrass and that’s why the recipe contest is so neat.”
The National Peanut Festival opens November 1st and runs through the 10th.
