Wiregrass Kidney Walk goes virtual

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- The first-ever virtual Wiregrass Kidney Walk is Saturday.

The ceremonial walk and discussion of kidney diseases and awareness will be live-streamed on the Alabama Kidney Foundation Facebook page and broadcasted on WOOF-FM starting at 9 AM.

Team winners will be announced and they also hope to announce that the $93,000 goal has been met.

Proceeds will help kidney patients with things such as high utility bills, prescription medications and transportation to and from dialysis treatments.

“That’s what we help them do. These are dialysis patients that are underserved and don’t have any insurance, so they rely on us heavily and all of that money is raised through our annual walks,” says Alabama Kidney Foundation Wiregrass director Lisa Baity.

About $12,000 is still needed to meet the goal.

If you would like to contribute to help reach the goal, you can donate towards any walker or team online at wiregrasskidneywalk.org.
