The City of Blakely got its Fourth of July festivities started a week early.

The Early County Chamber of Commerce figured a lot of people would be travelling and spending time with family for the Fourth, so they decided to celebrate a week early.

"In a way I did it to prove to my family that I really could do something,” said The Voice Competitor Shawna P. “They were like, 'Aww, she's just a musician she's never gonna do anything.' So I was like, ‘There, I did the voice. Leave me alone.’"

Shawna P is a woman of firsts, she was on the first ever team Shakira on The Voice in 2013,

Now, she's been the first headliner at the first ever Firecracker Festival in Blakely, Georgia.

"I have a tribe all over the place, and now I feel like I have a new tribe here, in Southwest Georgia," said Shawna P.

The free Firecracker Festival featured Shawna as the headline, but also had plenty of vendors and bounce houses.

Of course, it wouldn't be the Firecracker Festival, without a little fireworks.

"We're going to continue to grow it, get it bigger better,” said Firecracker Festival Co-Sponsor Roger Beckley. “This facility we have here, the recreation department is phenomenal. All these fields are beautiful, 20 something acres just ready to go."

If they do have another Firecracker Festival next year, they won't exactly have to beg Shawna P to come back.

"Best fried chicken, hands down, and the watermelon is out of this world,” said Shawna P. “I don't know what you guys are doing down here growing this stuff, but we've been well fed and well cared for."

Event coordinators say they had around 3,000 people at the festival, and plan to make it bigger and better next year.
