DOTHAN, Ala (WTVY) -- The Dothan Civic Center was packed Thursday night for Chipola College’s Spring Commencement.
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried delivered the commencement address.
She said the community should be commended for its perseverance following Hurricane Michael.
“After Hurricane Michael hit our state knocking down powerlines, leveling trees, literally changing the skyline of this community, Chipola College did not give up,” said Fried. “You all came together in the midst of destruction to pave a path forward and to persevere. That is a lesson in strength that applies to your lives every single day going forward, not just during this recovery process.”
She also encouraged graduates to embrace challenges and find purpose.
Fried said, “Find the reason for your journey. Know that your journey is going to take you on lots of different paths. Don’t be afraid to follow them. And always persevere because that is what’s going to make you successful.”
