FDLE report shows crime rates down in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG) -- Florida's crime rates were down in 2018 compared to years before. That's according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

In the 2018 Annual Uniform Crime Report, which documents index crimes known to law enforcement from January to December 2018, Florida's crime rate dropped 9 percent compared to 2017.

The reports says overall crime volume dropped 7.4 percent (45,154 fewer reported index crimes) compared with 2017, violent crime fell 4.2 percent, and property crime fell 7.9 percent.

A further breakdown in the report shows:
-Robbery is down 9.3 percent
-Aggravated assault is down 4.2 percent
-Burglary is down 19.1 percent
-Larceny is down 5.8 percent
-Motor vehicle thefts are down 4.1 percent
-Florida's domestic violence decreased 1.9 percent
-Murder increased 4.7 percent
-Rape offenses increased 6.3 percent

According to this report, there were 716,653 arrests across Florida in 2018.
