Enterprise continues to re-vitalize its downtown

ENTERPRISE, AL. (WTVY) - The City of Enterprise is currently in the process of applying to earn the designation as a Main Street Alabama city.

Trisha Black, Main Street Field Services Specialist, says "Main Street Alabama is a state-coordinating program with the National Main Street center. We are dedicated and focused on bringing these jobs back into these downtown commercial districts as well as neighborhood commercial districts."

The non-profit Main Street Alabama has 23 designated programs and some 33 network cities.

"We give these communities the tools to be able to reap success in those districts in the ways of design, organization, promotion, and economic vitality,” replied Black.

Joining Main Street is not an easy process…

"It takes a lot of time and investment, personal investment, from these business owners. When I say personal investment ...I mean their time," said Black

Some are ready to take that step now...

Amanda Askins, Co-Owner of AM Designs, LLC. says "It brings in that extra work that, you know, not everyone can do on their own. It also gives you opportunities to reach out to other communities that are doing it...I think it's a great opportunity for Enterprise."

Black says the program is not looking to take the job of the city's chamber of commerce.

"The Main Street program serves as the cardiologist of the community, focusing on the heart of the community. The Chamber is the general practitioner...without the heart pumping strong, the other functions of the body is not going to be able to perform as well," replied Black.
