EARLY COUNTY, Ga. (WTVY) -- Early County Schools will close the week of March 16-20, says the Superintendent. All school activities have been suspended until further notice.
Only custodial staff should report to work on Monday, March 16.
The schools will close to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Superintendent Bronwyn Ragan-Martin, Ed.D. says the decision was made following the recommendation of the Governor of Georgia, Georgia Department of Education, and Georgia Department of Health.
"Our first priority is the safety and wellness of our students," explained Superintendent Ragan-Martin. "Shutting down a school district is never an easy decision. Many of our students rely on our schools for meals and safe, secure shelter. We also understand the challenge this puts on our parents. However, in this instance, we believe it is in the best interest of our students, employees, and the community at large to avoid closely grouping students together."
A decision on whether to stay closed the week of March 23-27 will be made by Thursday, March 19.
