Dothan, AL (WTVY)-- A Dothan man pleaded guilty to murder Monday and will most likely receive a 25 year prison sentence.
20-year old Ricky Smith was among five charged with shooting of Williams “Phatso” Hawkins. Police named illegal drugs as the motive.
The cases of the others charged with killing Hawkins have been resolved. One received life prison and the other is a juvenile case.
Hawkins died at his home on Collier Street in May 2016. Police say they pinpointed some of the suspects at his home because they wore ankle monitors related to previous arrests.
Charged with capital murder, Smith pleaded guilty to felony murder. The Houston County District Attorney's office will recommend 25 years.
Smith, who did not fire the deadly shots, will be sentenced next month.
