DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- September 11th is next Wednesday.

It will be a time to reflect and remember first responders who lost their lives that day in New York City in 2001.

Wesley Place in Dothan showed appreciation by honoring our emergency services, first responders on Saturday.

The event also gave children an opportunity to interact with those, who are usually the first line of defense in emergencies, in a non-traumatic way.

"They aren't always having to be those real tough guys they have to be in those situations, but like I said they're just everyday people and they're good people and so this gives them the opportunity to show the community who they are," said Wesley Place on Honeysuckle Marketing and Admissions Director Holly Whitehead.

More than 15 first responders were on hand.

Dothan Police and Fire Department, Pilchers Ambulance, Houston County Sheriff's Office and Dothan-Houston County EMA all received awards for their exceptional dedication to the Dothan community.
