Dothan Utilities continue replacing meters
Dothan Utilities Operations Superintendent, Chris Phillips, announced today (May 5, 2020) that Dothan Utilities crews are continuing with the replacement of residential electric meters throughout Dothan. Since July of 2019, approximately 22,000 new electric meters have been installed. The new meters will be able to be monitored remotely, eliminating the need to send crews each month to manually read the meters. However, Dothan Utilities’ goal is to have crews inspect each electric meter annually to ensure they are in proper working order. There are still approximately 9,000 electric meters that need to be exchanged for the newer, more advanced units.
Dothan Utilities crews will knock on customers doors to let them know that they will experience a short, two-minute electric service interruption during the change-out. The exchange process should take fewer than 20 minutes per household. Crews will be installing the new meters Mondays through Saturdays during daylight hours.
