Dothan Police Department surprises kids with an early Christmas Gift.

DOTHAN Ala.(WTVY)- “We want to keep the kids active congratulate the kids on a great accomplishment good citizenship academics and conduct grades. “

A surprise many didn’t know was coming, due to hard work in school thirty-seven students were given a brand new bike.

Preston Franklin said, “I have my own bike I can ride it every day now instead of my scooter.”

For some of the students, this is the first bike they’ve ever owned."

Niyah Darnell said, “I’ve never had a bike and I really wanted to ride a bike and race.”

Others are just excited it came in time for Christmas.

Ashton Skipper said, “I had an old bike that got from Christmas and it broke and now I get to have a new bike that’s not broke and I haven’t really learned how to ride a bike yet which is going to be fun.”

Students had to meet certain criteria to be eligible for a new bike.

Corporal Andy Davis said, “Good conduct good citizenship being good to other students helping other students with waterer problems they may have a good grade did help in there but mainly the good conduct and good citizenship ‘

Academy has been doing this for 17 years and they hope to continue the bike tradition for years to come.
