DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- City of Dothan staff said farewell to someone who has served the community for the past four decades.

Director Elston Jones is retiring from Dothan Leisure Services where he has been working for forty years.

Jones was hired as the former Lincoln Center recreation supervisor in 1980.

Since then he has been promoted six times within the department.

In 2019 Jones received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association.

At the party, Jones made it clear that he didn't get here on his own and expressed gratitude to those who believed in him over the years.

"It's been a good tenure with the City of Dothan. The City of Dothan has been a good place to work… excellent place to live and raise a family. This has just been a good ride for me,” says Jones.

At his retirement party, he received a special gift from his staff - a blanket made out of leisure service shirts from over the years.
