DOTHAN Ala.(WTVY)- A game many say is the highlight of the season Dothan High School versus Northview High School.
DHS Father James Ford said, "I feel like it's good for the city to actually come out as one and even though it's a rivalry you still get people to come out and you get to see people you haven't seen for many years as you come out and watch the game.”
The merging of the schools hasn't been easy for some parents.
Some parents worry whether or not their child will have a spot on the team next season.
DHS Mother Kokeshia Small said, “I think it's going to be more of a competitive edge I don't think it's going to be very good for the athletic program in certain sports such as basketball".
Rafeal North is a proud graduate of north view high school.
He’s sad that he won’t get to see his son follow a similar path.
"Three years to play against Dothan High he's a freshman on the JV team and I would have like to see him play all three of his years like I had the opportunity to so it's a little bittersweet right now.
Although the merging of the schools is something parents can't change they say tonight is a historical moment for everyone in the community.
NHS father Keithland Reeves said, "Till the day I die, I'm always going to be a Northview cougar. a tradition there taking away like the rivalries that were the biggest thing. "
