DOTHAN, AL. (WTVY) - The Dothan Fire Department has several people eligible for retirement so they're looking for nine firefighters now with additional recruitment over the next year.
Scheduled shifts call for working 24 hours straight then having 48 hours off.
There are daily duties each firefighter is assigned to during their shifts in between waiting for any emergency calls.
"One thing that is required during the application process is passing the CPAT. It's the candidate physical ability testing," said Deputy Chief Chris Etheredge. "That must be completed within six months of your application period. So we're offering that each Friday."
"Our top five priorities in our department are: Our station, our members, our grounds, our vehicles and equipment and community involvement. So each and every day there's objectives and daily goals, duties, and tasks associated with these top five priorities," said Deputy Chief Fire Chief Larry Williams.
The window to apply closes January 30th.
Fire officials hope to begin the interviewing process next month.
