DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) Two new faces were among those taking the oath of office Monday night for the Dothan City School Board.
Outgoing Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz was sworn in as School Board Chairman At Large at Northview High School’s Convocation Center.
New District 5 Board Member Amy Bonds also took the oath, as did returning board members Brenda Guilford (District 1), Franklin Jones (District 2), Susan Vierkandt (District 3), Brett Strickland (District 4), and Chris Maddox (District 6).
The first item on the school boards’ to-do list? Find a new superintendent.
Chairman Schmitz says they are looking for the most qualified candidate to lead the city’s school system.
“We’re going to go ahead and start looking at the applications," said Schmitz. "I may ask for an extension for 30 days with the new board just to give us a little extra time. I think we’re had some great applicants and that’s the number one priority we have.”
The Dothan City School Board currently has about ten applicants for the superintendent position.
Former superintendent Chuck Ledbetter left the position in June.
