DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Preparations are underway for a fall favorite event at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens.

It all begins with the scarecrow workshops held by Chairman of the Scarecrows, Larry Dykes.

For the next two Fridays and Mondays, Dykes will be holding workshops on how to build scarecrows to the standards that participants will be judged on in the contest.

The scarecrows will be built around a certain theme. This year's theme is classic movies and TV.

Participants' scarecrows will be judged on creativity, originality, and execution.

The scarecrows will be installed in the Gardens the last two weeks of September, and will remain up for display through the entire month of October.

The entry fee for the contest is $20, except for school groups.
