The Dothan Regional Airport is bringing changes to the runway, terminal and baggage claim area.
One of the biggest renovations comes between security and boarding.
"The community spoke and the top requested item was a restroom beyond security,” Dothan Regional Airport Director Adam Hartzog said. “It has been for years they heard but we actually saw it on the server now."
Starting in June the airport will add another Delta flight to and from Atlanta.
"The fifth flight a day will be added about 4:30 and departing about five and that will connect more of our citizens of Dothan to the West Coast in an easier manner,” Hartzog added.
Previously passengers would wait for their baggage with nothing to do; now the wall is covered in art work and information with what's going on in Dothan and the surrounding area.
"We wanted to create a way to let people know you're in Dothan, Alabama welcome to town here is what's happening, here's some videos, slides, some things that are going on while you're here," Visit Dothan President and CEO Aaron McCreight said.
The additions may seem small, but could result in future neighbors.
"Anytime that you have visitors coming to your community, that's an opportunity for them to look at this city in this area as 'hey this would be a great place to live,” McCreight said. “This would be a great place to start a business.'"
60,000 passengers traveled through the Dothan Regional Airport last year.
