1 in 135 Alabama drivers are likely to hit a deer this year.

While that number might not sound terribly substantial, the reality is it could happen to anyone- but is significantly more likely... Should you live in the Yellowhammer State.

Deer are the biggest animal threat to road safety, and cause 1.2 million car collisions every year.

The cost for fixing the damages isn’t cheap- averaging more than 4-thousand dollars in property damage claims per accident.

Dothan body shop owner Ed Bryson says he's seen a dramatic spike in deer collisions over recent years in the Wiregrass.

He attributes the increase in urbanization.

Bryson tells WTVY: "everybody progresses and moves to the outside suburbs. (The) deer got to run some place. And let's face it this isn't the little town that it used to be. It's a pretty good sized community. You’re going to run into more deer. We have a lot of rural area around us.”

West Virginia tops the list of states where a collision is most likely.

In that state, the odds are 1 in 41.
