CHIPLEY, Fla. (WJHG) -- A Chipley man is facing charges after police say he was armed with a gun and had drugs.

Police say Monday they got calls about a man walking around with a gun on his hip in the area of 5th Street and Maybell Way. Officers say when they found Brandic Griffin, he was sitting on the steps of a home with a bag to the side of the steps. Police say they did not see a gun.

When officers asked Griffin about the gun, they say he denied having one. One of the officers asked Griffin to stand up so he could be patted down and they say Griffin became argumentative.

Police say when Griffin stood up, he reached for a gun in his pants. An officer says he was able to gain control of the gun and arrest Griffin.

Officers searched the bag Griffin had with him. They say it had a crystal-like substance that tested positive for meth, drug paraphernalia, and ten shotgun shells.

Griffin was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of weapon short-barreled gun rifle or machine gun, control substance without a prescription, and possession of narcotic equipment.
