OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) - A Wiregrass high school is one in five recognized as a "School of Excellence."

Carroll High School was awarded as a "School of Excellence" by A+ College Ready, a partner with the Alabama State Department of Education in helping expand Advanced Placement success in the state.

The award was given to schools that achieved their AP goal or surpassed it, Carroll's goal was 30 qualifying scores and they received 39.

Principal Clark says this is a huge milestone since they are a low income school.

"This gives our kids an opportunity to get those college credits without spending a dime,” said Principal Sean Clark.

A+ is holding academic training at different schools. On Wednesday, more than 40 teachers across the state came to Carroll to train in social studies. For the sixth year in a row, Alabama has had the highest percentage of growth in qualifying scores in AP classes.
