OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) - The Carroll boys basketball team will have to forfeit 17 wins on the season after self-reporting an ineligible player. Ozark City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Rick McInturf, confirmed the news to WTVY.
McInturf says the violation stems from the AHSAA's Bona Fide Move rule.
A member of the Carroll basketball team moved from Dothan to Carroll over the summer and the school system believed he was moving with the entire family, however the player came to live with his father who already lived there.
Carroll was also fined $250.
Now the Eagles are still eligible for the postseason play this year, but their record drops from 20-6 to 3-23.
McInturf says they plan to appeal the decision.
