Thousands of acres of land are burning all throughout the Panhandle, and local officials are working to put a stop to it.

Tuesday morning Walton County Commissioners issued a burn ban.

This means you cannot burn yard waste, household paper products, bonfires, and campfires to name a few.

Florida Forestry Service officials tell us weather conditions in our area can create extreme fire behavior for the next few days and right now they need to conserve all of their resources.

"We've got multiple resources throughout the state, as far south as Miami, here to assist us. We're constantly running new fires, [so] it's important for us to be ready and head on a swivel for these new starts so they don't grow into something that's catastrophic," said Steve Weherley, the mitigation specialist for the Florida Forest Service.

Forest officials tell us there are currently 32 fires throughout the Chipola region, which covers seven counties.
