Suspect in Geneva Co. body in burned vehicle makes first appearance

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) -- [UPDATE: 5/16/2019 at 4:36 PM]
An arrest has been made in the case of a body - found in a burned out vehicle in Geneva County.

36 year old Chad Dewayne Brogdon of Level Plains faces murder and abuse of a corpse charges.

Fishermen spotted the burned out vehicle, Tuesday under the Choctawhatchee River Bridge on Highway 167 north, in Hartford
the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is performing an autopsy on the body, which is burned beyond recognition.

Brogdon, is in the Dale County Jail with no bond.

[ORIGINAL STORY]
An investigation is underway in Geneva County after a body was discovered in a burning vehicle.

The vehicle is located under the Choctawhatchee River Bridge on Highway 167 near the Geneva and Dale County line.

Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms says that Hartford initially responded to the call.

Since that time the Sheriff’s Office and Alabama Bureau of Investigation have joined in the investigation.

It’s unclear the gender of the person in the vehicle according to Helms

At this time they have very little information about the vehicle.

Helms says he also has no recent missing persons reports in the area.
