The police department had put out a call on Twitter, saying if they reached 10,000 followers by April they would get a police cat.

A week later, according to WXYZ, the department surpassed its goal.

Several kittens and a cat from the Humane Society were brought into the station audition, or play with officers.

One lucky kitten was selected, but it will be staying with the Humane Society until it doubles its weight to two pounds.

The unsuccessful feline candidates are now available for adoption.

Troy police intend to rely on help from social media in selecting a name for their feline partner.
