Attorney claims another man is real killer, police to speak on matter
Just before Carl Harris, Jr. was to go on trial for the murder of his wife, his attorney is suggesting and old friend of Harris' may have committed that crime.
Ozark police will discuss this matter during a news conference scheduled Monday morning though it is unknown what they plan to divulge.
In court filings Friday, attorney David Harrison claimed that Harris' former roommate, Bobby Herring, made inconsistent statements to investigators in 1990, when Tracy Harris died.
Harrison also claims that Herring was later convicted of raping another woman and spent several years in prison for that crime.
“The rape (of that girl) and the murder (of Tracy Harris) seem to have the same modus operandi, common plan, scheme and design,” Harrison claims.
This bizarre case began in 1990 when Ms. Harris' body was found in the Choctawhatchee River near a Dale County bridge.
It took 26 years to make an arrest but, in 2016, Carl Harris was charged with strangling his wife, then tossing her body into the water.
His case had been scheduled for trial Monday, his 55th birthday, but has been delayed until later this year.
