(AL.com) — You may not know who your Secretary of State is, but everyone in Alabama knows who Alexander Shunnarah is. Or, at least, that's how 16-year-old Eli Stephens sees it.
The personal injury attorney, widely recognized across the state, is known for his catch-phrase "Call me, Alabama"-- and Stephens did just that when he wanted Shunnarah to be in his senior class photos.
It all started when Stephens, a junior at Helena High School, reached out to the Alexander Shunnarah Personal Injury Attorneys, P.C. Instagram account and asked how many 'likes' he needed in order to get his class pictures made with the firm's head attorney.
"Senior pictures are always really boring... but this just represents Alabama," Stephens told AL.com. "There was no reason not to [message them]."
The person who handles the account jokingly replied, "One million!"
Stephens didn't back down from the challenge. He responded: "That's a lot! I'm on a mission now."
Shunnarah first heard about the quest for likes from his three daughters. "Daddy, are you going to take a picture with Eli?" they asked. Shunnarah didn't know about the teen and his mission yet, but quickly learned what was going on.
"I saw it at 15-16,000 [likes] and I said, 'Bring Eli in,'" Shunnarah said.
Thursday afternoon, the teen visited Shunnarah headquarters with his mom and sister. He and Shunnarah talked about his college future-- Stephens wants to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham or Troy University-- and about following his dream of working in theater as a stage director.
