DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Alabama has been celebrating its 200th birthday all year.
You can learn about the state's history in many ways, but have you ever considered doing it through food?
Alabama author Emily Blejwas did and she discussed her book at Wallace Community College.
"The Story of Alabama in 14 Foods" explains the culture of different Alabama regions.
Each chapter features a different food that tells the stories of several groups and state events.
"it’s interesting because the state is so diverse there are food traditions and cultures traditions along the gulf coast that north Alabama has never heard of and vice versa," says Blejwas.
If you want to know more about the foods unique to each Alabama region, you can order the book online for about $40.
