Dothan, AL (WTVY)-- For the third time in a week Academy Sports and Outdoors has closed its showroom.
Police first ordered the store, except for curbside service, to shut down on March 31.
State officials told local authorities to enforce Alabama Department of Public Health orders aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19.
When Governor Ivey issued a stay at home order last Friday, some of those guidelines were tweaked and Academy reopened with a limited number of customers allowed inside.
Police shut the store down again Sunday, claiming those revised guidelines did not affect Academy.
The store then opened its doors a third time on Monday. Police Major Will Benny said officers checked again with state health officials and were told to shut the store's showroom down.
Benny said the store closed again Tuesday morning. “They were extremely cooperative and, considering the latest guidance, will allow online and curbside purchases only,” he told WTVY.
Academy, in an email last week, argued that it sold many essential items.
The company did not answer another email, sent Tuesday, seeking to verify that its 14 other Alabama stores will also shut down.
