DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) Dothan city commissioners approved a rezoning request in a neighborhood on the east side of town today.
The property owned by Peppi Cooper at the corner of Rowland and Beverlye roads was approved for residential homes.
The property was formerly zoned for agriculture and business as well as homes.
The real estate company that's marketing the property, conducted research to determine the appropriate price for housing.
The company is also working with neighboring residents.
District 5 Commissioner Beth Kenward says the development will help bridge the housing gap.
"They came in asking for one zoning and were willing to compromise with the citizens of that neighborhood after hearing them. That's a step in the right direction, and we of course as a city commission want to make decisions to support the community," Kenward says.
The commission also approved rezoning three other properties.
