2017 Weather Year in Review: Massive Colorado hailstorm of May

DENVER, Colo. (WTVY) -- With the end of the year approaching, WTVY is going to look back at notable weather events from throughout 2017.

A strong spring storm dropped a blanket of hail throughout much of Denver and prompted severe thunderstorm warnings across the Eastern Plains. The storm moved quickly through downtown Denver, creating rivers of hail and a layer of ice on Coors Field. Courtesy: KCNC / CBS Newspath

A major hailstorm struck Colorado on May 9th, 2017.

Stones as large as baseballs turned the ground white and resulted in the most expensive hail storm in the state's history with over $1.5 billion in insured damage losses.

The storm also affected states like New Mexico and Oklahoma with hail and straight line winds.
