ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) -- Before Valerie Cates moved to the area, she used to be a surveyor... but trying to find work in a new place was hard.
“This is a new job market for me. We came from a different state so I don’t know everybody around here," she said.
With the help of the Ft. Rucker Wiregrass Job Fair, she’s now feeling more confident than ever about finding work.
“I feel hopeful for the first time that I can find something here, and actually I’ve already turned in a couple of resumes and they seem interested which, I never would’ve known about those jobs if it hadn’t been for this," Cates said.
However, there’s no shortage of jobs across the Wiregrass. The event also gave employers a chance to meet with candidates and make crucial hires.
“We are looking for as many people as possible to come work for the Alabama Department of Corrections," explained Easterling Correctional Facility Psychological Associate Patrick Hampton, "not only in Clio Alabama but all over the state of Alabama, you know, so we just need the people to come by, fill out the application and become a part of one of the greatest agencies there is.”
Sometimes the perfect meet-up for employers and candidates is difficult to maneuver, which is why the Southeast AlabamaWorks helps hosts the annual fair each year.
“Our job with Southeast Alabama works is to connect industry with job seekers. And this is a great opportunity for our local employers, said Southeast AlabamaWorks Director Ryan Richards, "and there’s a lot of individuals that may be unemployed or even underemployed that would like a change in career path and this is a great opportunity to find that here."
