In a morning news conference, Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms said the un-named 14-year-old's reckless behavior with a shotgun in his foster family's house led to the felony charge.
Just after 6:30 last night, sheriff helms says 12-year-old Jade Jones, known to family and friends as Bubba, died instantly after being shot in the side of his body with a shotgun. The victim is from the Florala area. His 14-year-old friend who had been living in the home is charged with manslaughter. They were home alone when one of the children apparently found the weapon in a closet. We spoke with several neighbors who wished not to appear on camera, but say the 14-year-old suspect is friendly and attends public school in Hartford.
Authorities have not released the results of the autopsy.
