DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza on Thursday announced a dent in Dothan crime with his stern look perhaps a predictor of things to come.

Facing multiple charges are Willie Gilmore II and Robert Bailey who live there.

This is the latest law enforcement operation in an enthusiastic effort to curb violence that shocked Dothan.

Four died from gunshots during November and others were wounded.

“I know a lot of people are scared to go out (shopping) or out to eat,” Valenza said.

But he sees the tide turning.

He applauds his deputies for their dedication and praises Dothan police cooperation in the joint effort to stifle crime.

Valenza, a 46-year law enforcement officer, suspects he knows what is driving recent violence that has almost solely been committed by brash teens and young adults.

“I think a lot of of it is this homelife that some of them are living and they get infatuated with (violent-themed) video games, and also become addicted to (gang-type online) videos,” he said.

Valenza pleads for public involvement in reporting incidents that could assist officers and has a stern message to those who run afoul of the law.

“Change your lifestyle before we get our hands on you,” Valenza warned.
