PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - As more and more tourists visit our beaches, the question arises: are the beaches staying clean?

Local organization Keep PCB Beautiful has made efforts to make sure as tourists come that they also take the time to properly dispose of their trash and avoid polluting the gulf.

Saturday, the organization celebrated World Ocean Day which is actually on June 8th, by holding a beach cleanup.

66 volunteers collected nearly 300 pounds of trash along the beach access points.

“There are rows and rows of trash cans on our beach, just please, just pick up your trash and throw it away, we do have dedicated volunteers who adopted beach accesses that go out every month and clean their beach access but everybody should be picking up after themselves. Pack it in and pack it out,” Keep PCB Beautiful President JoAnn Weatherford said.

Keep PCB Beautiful will be holding their annual Robbie Atchinson Beach Cleanup on July 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at access point five.
