MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - A leadership change is coming to the Business Council of Alabama.

Katie Boyd Britt announced her resignation as president and CEO. Her resignation is effective Friday.

She’s held the job since January 2019.

Britt says she’s leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Although she has not announced a political run, there is speculation she could be considering running for the Senate seat that will be vacated by Sen. Richard Shelby next year.

Britt previously worked as Shelby’s chief of staff.

A search is underway for her replacement at the BCA.

“The Board and the entire leadership team at BCA are greatly indebted to Katie for the leadership she has provided. Katie and the BCA staff are to be commended for their work serving businesses of every size and sector. Today’s BCA is focused on advancing a 21st century economy in which all Alabamians can thrive. We will miss Katie’s leadership and energy on behalf of hardworking Alabama families and job creators; however, she leaves BCA having improved the organization and our state. I have no doubt that BCA’s future is bright, as is Alabama’s. We all wish Katie the very best in her future endeavors,” BCA Chairman Gary Smith said in a statement.
